Chapter 481:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Captain Smith sat on the couch next to her and stared at Jennie. He read every slight change in her face.
However, Captain Smith discovered that Jennie was very astute, because she evaded crucial points when answering Soames’ questions.
Although her answers were clearly false, they were very reasonable.
He thought this case was very problematic.
“Miss Jennie, the last question. You must answer truthfully. If we find that you are concealing the truth, we have the right to arrest you for obstructing the police.”
Soames’ gaze was piercing as he looked at Jennie, and he warned in a gentle tone.
Jennie smiled, “Agent Soames, what you said is very funny. You’ve asked so many questions and I’ve answered you quite seriously, haven’t I?”.
Soames laughed softly, “Miss Jennie, it doesn’t matter if it was true or a lie, I have the ability to tell the difference. All you have to do is answer this question truthfully.”
Jennie nodded, “Okay, go ahead.”
Soames looked at the case file in his hand.
He raised his eyebrows and looked at Jennie.
“Mrs. Jennie, do you know Garland Cheek?”
Jennie thought he was going to ask her questions related to the case, so she was stunned to hear Garland’s name.

Soames repeated, “Mrs. Jennie, do you know Garland Cheek?”
Jennie came to her senses and shaking her head without thinking, denied.
“I don’t know any Garland.”
“You don’t know him? Are you sure?” asked Soames.
Jennie fretted, “No, I don’t know him. Don’t ask me again.”
Seeing her emotions finally fluctuating, Soames turned and exchanged a knowing glance with Captain Smith.
Then he closed the case log in his hand and stood up.
He said politely to Jennie.
“Thank you for your time today, Miss Jennie.”
Now that the questioning was over, Jennie gradually relaxed.
She watched silently as Soames approached Captain Smith and handed him the notebook.
Captain Smith took it and leafed through it for a while.
Then he closed it and held it in his hand.
He turned to Jennie.
Jennie looked at Captain Smith warily.
Captain Smith stopped in front of her with an expressionless face. “Miss Jennie, the case of Mr. Tang and his document forgery is still on trial. You only requested bail pending trial due to illness, but your punishment is not exonerated. I just want to tell you seriously that it is not too late for you to confess your crime. Otherwise, when we find out that the facts are completely different from what you said, then your crime will be compounded and the punishment will be harsher.”
Jennie was not an idiot and understood this well. But she still wanted to take a chance and she didn’t want Sara to be happy.
So she said firmly, “Don’t worry, Captain Smith, everything I said is true. I’m not afraid of your investigation.”
It seemed that Jennie would never give up until there was no way out.
Since that was the case, Captain Smith didn’t have to speak to the wind.
Therefore, Captain Smith put on a faint smile and said casually, “I hope you can remember what you said today.”
Captain Smith left with his men.
Rorey hurried into the living room and asked anxiously, “Mom, how are you doing, have they made things difficult for you?”
Jennie was exhausted and lay down on the couch.
Rorey rushed to Jennie’s side and asked anxiously, “Mom, are you all right?”
“I’m fine,” Jennie nodded weakly. She grabbed Rorey’s hand and asked, “Rorey, what did your father say – will he help me?”
Rorey bit her lips and looked at Jennie’s hopeful face. She had to nod and said, “Dad said he would help you.”
Jennie let out a sigh of relief.
“Great. As long as your dad is willing to help me, I have nothing to worry about anymore.”
Rorey wanted to tell Jennie that Garland didn’t want to help her.
Instead, he wanted Jennie to take on all the accusations to protect his only daughter.
How was she going to say something like that to her mother?
She didn’t want to disappoint her, so she would find a way to solve the problem herself. Aside from protecting her mother, the most important thing was to upset Sara.
Captain Smith told Sara everything.
Sara was silent for a long time before she asked, “Captain Smith, who is Garland?”
“He’s Jennie’s ex-husband, Rorey’s biological father.”
“Biological father?”
Sara raised her eyebrows in surprise.
“Rorey Gu and Garland Cheek, they don’t share the same last name – how could they be related?”
“According to our research, after Jennie and Garland separated, Jennie found out she was pregnant. So she randomly married someone, whose last name was Gu, and soon divorced him. Then she met your father.”
Sara shook her head and exclaimed disapprovingly, “I’m surprised Jennie lived a wonderful life when she was young.”
Captain Smith laughed and said, “Miss Sara, you may be out of focus.”
“Sorry.”
Sara rubbed her nose in embarrassment.
She put on a serious face and asked, “Why did you ask him if he recognized Garland?”
Captain Smith pondered for a moment. “I just wanted to test her.”
This was completely beyond Sara’s expectations.
She couldn’t help but laugh, “You’ve spent a lot of time to ask pointless questions.”
Captain Smith was embarrassed.
He pursed his lower lip and explained, “It’s not pointless. At least we know he was lying.”
Sara laughed with a hint of frustration, “I’ve already told you all the details. We can see at a glance if he’s lying, why bother?”.
Captain Smith raised his eyebrows and asked half jokingly, “If I told you things weren’t that simple, would you believe me?”
“I’ll believe you if you say so.”
Sara looked at him and lifted her chin to signal him to continue.
“Actually, before you asked me to look into this case, our team received a phone call. The other party told us a lot about Jennie, and at the end she said her name was Garland Cheek.”
Sara was stunned. She hadn’t expected that.
“So… This is the real reason why you asked Jennie?” Sara had a feeling she was making up a story and didn’t dare believe what she was saying.
Captain Smith nodded, “Yes.”
Sara let out a laugh and said, “Captain Smith, if you don’t explain it to me, I’ll have to doubt your team’s ability to try a case.”
Captain Smith smiled.
“Miss Sara, don’t worry. Our team is still very capable.”
‘Whether they are capable or not will depend on how they handle the case this time.’
Sara felt she was right to ask Captain Smith to investigate this case.
She believed that, with Captain Smith’s help, Jennie would soon be brought to justice.
