Chapter 149:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
I was cleaning Pierce’s wound in Emily’s apartment. I sat on the coffee table while Pierce sat on the couch, his gaze fixed downward. Emily leaned against the island counter, arms crossed, watching us with an amused expression. I felt comfortable, though it seemed like she was waiting for me to tell Pierce about my pregnancy.
“Don’t tell me you didn’t even land a punch?” Emily teased Pierce.
I glanced at her, frowning. “Emily…”
She chuckled. “What? He’s a man, but it seems like he’s weaker than you.”
I swallowed hard and turned to Pierce. He was looking down, clearly ashamed of himself.

Emily is a good friend. She’s like the older sister I never had, but sometimes her words are too insensitive and hurtful.
“Emily, can you give us some privacy?” I said, even though it was her own condo. When I looked at her, she just shrugged and walked to her room.
I turned back to Pierce and sighed. “Sorry about that.”
He wouldn’t look at me, so I gently lifted his chin to meet his eyes and continued cleaning his wound.
His lips parted when our gazes met. “Pierce…”
My heart raced. I didn’t want to make the same mistake as before, so I needed to be honest with him now. I had to tell him about the baby. Yes. Before I visited my mom, I went to my OB-GYN and got checked. The result was positive. I’m pregnant.
He stared at me, his eyes filled with love, admiration, and so much affection. How could I possibly hurt him now and tell him the truth about Snow’s father when he was looking at me like that?
“What is it, Kelly?” he asked, caressing my hand.
The warmth of his palm was comforting, as if telling me that everything would be okay and that I didn’t need to worry about anything.
I took a deep breath, gathering all my courage before finally telling him the truth. “Pierce, I’m pregnant.”
I didn’t blink. I stared at his handsome, bruised face, waiting for his reaction.
His lips parted, and he stared at me, silent. My mind was racing now. Slowly, I saw happiness flicker in his eyes.
“R—Really?” he asked.
I felt my heart race in response. I swallowed hard again and nodded.
He gasped, then slowly looked down at my stomach. “Oh God!”
He was panting when he suddenly knelt in front of me. I wanted to stop him, but my body felt frozen. I couldn’t even speak. I had surprised him, but why was I the one feeling immobile?
I flinched when he gently caressed my stomach. His touch sent waves of electrifying sensation through my body. He smiled as he glanced at me, and I saw tears welling in his eyes.
“Pierce…”
“Thank you,” he whispered, his voice trembling as he hugged me carefully. He kissed my hair repeatedly, and I could truly feel his love and care. “Thank you! Thank you, baby. I’m so happy right now. I could die!”
“Shh!” I immediately pulled away and looked at him, furrowing my brow. “Don’t say that.”
He sniffed, wiping away the tears rolling down his cheeks with the back of his hand. “Sorry. I was just… so happy. God! Baby, I don’t know what to do or what to feel. I want to hug you and kiss you right now and—wait… did you tell Snow?”
I slowly shook my head. “Not yet.”
He smiled, nodding. “She’ll be so happy. Let’s tell her later. Can you come with me? She’s bonding with my parents right now, but I promised her that you’d join us for dinner later.”
I smiled and nodded. “Of course.”
I could tell him now that Snow is also his child, but I didn’t have the heart to ruin the happiness he was feeling right now. He was thrilled about becoming a father. Who was I to take that joy away, especially given the selfish lie I had been carrying all this time?
Pierce gently caressed my stomach again. He was nervous and excited all at once. A smile never left his lips, and his eyes sparkled with happiness.
If I tell him the truth about Snow’s father… will he smile like this? Or will he lash out at me in anger?
My phone suddenly rang. It was Luke’s number, and I had given his phone to his younger brother, Liam.
I looked at Pierce and showed him my phone. “Excuse me for a moment.”
After he nodded, I stood up and walked to the kitchen. I leaned back against the refrigerator as I answered the call. “Hello, Liam?”
I could feel Pierce’s intense stare on me as I spoke, his eyes filled with mixed emotions. I couldn’t help but bite my bottom lip and offer him a smile.
[Miss Kelly, I… I was planning to give you the thing that Luke left before he died, but…]
I froze. My focus snapped to Liam. “What is it, Liam? Did something happen?”
[Lucy… found it, and I just saw her burning the documents.]
I squeezed my eyes shut. “Oh my God!”
Pierce quickly walked towards me, alarmed. He looked at me worriedly as I pressed my lips together, rubbing my forehead. This was insane. Why would she do that? The documents were our only chance to find the person who killed her brother.
“A-Are you sure she burned everything, Liam? We need that. It’s the only way we can find the person behind Luke’s death. It’s our only chance.”
I looked at Pierce again, and he immediately understood what had happened.
[I saw it all, Miss Kelly. She burned everything. She’s so angry. She… hates everyone, and she couldn’t accept what happened to Luke.]
I squeezed my eyes shut. Should I be mad at her? Should I blame her? She lost her brother—the one who took care of her and worked so hard to support them. I couldn’t even begin to imagine the pain she was going through. I had lost people I dearly loved too, and no words could ever explain how painful that was.
[I’m sorry, Miss Kelly. I really wanted to fulfill my promise to my brother, but it’s gone now. I think I have to focus on Lucy now. I don’t want to lose another sibling.]
I cleared my throat and nodded. “I understand, Liam. I’ve transferred some money to your bank account through my assistant. Use it to start over. I promise I won’t stop seeking justice for your brother.”
[Thank you, Miss Kelly. I’ll find Lucy and try to convince her to leave so we can start over again. It’ll be hard, but I’ll do my best to take care of her.]
“Goodbye, Liam. Take care of your sister.”
“After ending the call, I looked at Terrence and shook my head. “I’m back to square one.””
This makes the expression clearer and a bit more natural while keeping the essence of what you’re trying to convey. Let me know if you’d like further adjustments!
