Chapter 150:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Matt’s POV
I was cleaning the wound on my cheek when Mom came down the stairs, gasping when she saw us. The new house was huge and nice, but I still preferred the province over this crowded city.
“What happened to both of you?” she asked, rushing over to me and touching my face before checking Mason’s bruised eyebrow and lip.
“It’s nothing, Mom,” I answered, not wanting to make this an issue.
“Nothing? That’s not nothing, Matt! Who did this to you? Huh?”
I shook my head. “We’re no longer kids, Mom.”
“It’s Kelly’s boyfriend. The President of ADE,” Mason said, his expression hardening as he looked at me.
I hissed.

“That bitch again?” Mom screamed, her neck and face turning red. Tsk!
“Did you still visit Ava’s grave?” Mom growled as she looked at me.
I stared at her blankly. “Yes.”
“Matt!” she screamed. “I told you not to ever try to see them!”
I shook my head. “I just want to know what kind of people they are.”
“Kelly is a gold digger, Matt! She’s stealing everything that belongs to us!”
I stood up and faced her. “Mom, we can settle this without ruining the family.”
“She’s not part of the family, Matt! Who knows if she’s even Eva’s biological daughter? What if she’s just pretending?”
“Didn’t Attorney Lee confirm it? We were all there during the reading of the will, Mom. It was clearly stated that Eva Foster’s daughter should inherit the family business and all the properties under the Foster name.”
“Then what about us?” she spat back.
I gritted my teeth. I never wanted wealth. I wanted a simple life, but my family didn’t share the same opinion. They wanted the company, the land, and everything under the Foster name.
“This will just make things worse, Mom.”
“That bitch Kelly is making it worse, Matt! Can’t you see? She kicked Father out of the company? Matt, wake up!”
I looked sharply at Mason. “The girl you’re calling a bitch is our cousin, Mason.”
“She’s not!” I growled. “Mom said she might be an impostor.”
“Don’t be ridiculous!” I snapped. “Kelly has money. She doesn’t even need the Foster’s wealth.”
“Then why did she steal the company from us?”
I pressed my lips together. I don’t know Kelly’s reasons, so I have nothing to say now. I just want to make them realize that Kelly is not the enemy. Clearly, that girl is lonely. She lost both of her parents. Her stepbrother seems obsessed with her, and her stepmother killed her father. I don’t think she’d put herself in this difficult situation unless she had reasons.
Mom slowly shook her head, looking at me with disappointment. “I can’t believe you’re taking her side, Matt. You are my son! Your father was wronged. You should be siding with us, not defending that woman!”
“I have free will, Mom,” I said firmly. “I will believe what I want to believe, and in my eyes… Kelly’s not what you’re claiming her to be.”
I kept my face neutral as I walked past Mason and went upstairs. New house, new life? Nah. This is tougher than before. Why are they even fighting over the company? Mom and Dad have enough savings. Besides, I have work, and Mason does too, though that bastard doesn’t like working.
Ugh, I should just stay at the ancestral house. It’s the most peaceful place now that my family is in the city.
Kelly’s POV
“What will you do now?” Pierce asked, his voice full of concern.
I pressed my lips together and sighed deeply. “I actually don’t know… I don’t know anymore.”
“Why don’t you start getting yourself checked and get some rest? You shouldn’t stress yourself too much.”
I stared at his face, grateful for his concern. “Can you let Snow stay at your house for the meantime?”
He clenched his jaw. “Whatever you want for her, but I’m worried about you too. I can’t just leave you here, especially after you told me about your situation.”
I smiled softly and caressed his arm. “I’m fine, Pierce. I still have to work, and besides, Emily and Yara are here.”
“Do you want me to send Ana back here? So you have another person to rely on?”
I shook my head. “She should stay with Snow.”
He sighed and shook his head. “I’m just really worried.”
“I won’t tell you to stop worrying, but I assure you that I will take care of myself. I won’t get hurt.”
“Promise me,” he whispered, staring deeply into my eyes.
“I promise.”
He moved closer to me, gently cupping my cheeks. Resting his forehead against mine, I squeezed my eyes closed at the contact. After everything that has happened, I’ve made up my mind. I will tell him everything, leaving nothing out. I will accept whatever his reaction may be—anger, pain, disappointment, or whatever else comes.
The next day, I decided to visit the Foster family’s sunflower plantation. I learned that there’s a helipad at the Fosters’ properties in the province, so I opted to use a helicopter. Emily was with me.
It didn’t take long before my eyes were filled with the sight of the beautiful sunflower fields. Even Emily seemed entranced by the flowers, their golden hues stretching across the land.
I wanted to visit the farm for a specific reason. As the heiress to the Fosters’ fortune, I didn’t feel the need for any more wealth. However, I had heard that many of the residents of this province knew my mom’s family, some even being former workers of the estate. I intended to gather information from them, and today, I was going to start.
“That’s the Foster family’s ancestral house, Miss Kelly,” my bodyguard said, pointing. “The current housekeeper is the daughter of the previous housekeeper.”
I looked at him, my curiosity piqued. “The previous housekeeper knew my mom, right?”
“Yes, Miss. According to the information I gathered, she was your mom’s nanny.”
I took a deep breath, nodding. I began walking toward the ancestral house, my heart pounding with each step. When I reached the door, it opened, and the housekeeper greeted me.
The maids bowed their heads as soon as they saw me. They lined up in front of me, and while I appreciated the gesture, it made me feel uncomfortable.
“Good day, Miss Kelly. I am Felicia, the current housekeeper.”
I nodded and gave her a small smile, but it immediately faded when I noticed the man standing at the top of the stairs. Resting his arm against the railing, he smiled as he saw me.
“Hi, cousin,” he said, flashing a grin.
My forehead creased. “What are you doing here, Matt?”
He shrugged casually, descending the stairs with a whistle before stopping in front of me. “The city’s toxic, and I prefer the fresh air here. How about you?”
I gritted my teeth, unable to suppress my frustration. “I won’t trust you, Matt.”
He glanced behind me and smiled. “That’s a good defense. Why don’t you introduce me to the beautiful lady behind you?”
My forehead furrowed further. I heard Emily let out an exaggerated groan.
“Why don’t we go inside now and get straight to the reason we’re here, Kelly? This place has become polluted too, unfortunately. Too bad for the flowers.”
Matt chuckled and looked at me again. “I can help, Kelly. I’m not as bad as you think.”
I lifted my chin and looked him straight in the eye. “Prove it, Matt. My trust has been shattered too many times. Show me that you are willing to help seek justice for my mother’s death, and then maybe I’ll trust you.”
His lips parted, and I could see the uncertainty in his eyes. It seemed like he didn’t know about the foul play surrounding my mother’s death, but then why had he been at her grave? I couldn’t fully understand his intentions yet, and I knew better than to give my trust away too easily.
