Chapter 158:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Kelly’s POV
I looked inside the car. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were seated in the back row. In the second row sat Phoebe and Snow, while the driver was in the front seat. The only empty space was the passenger seat. I was about to get in when Mrs. Anderson cleared her throat.
“Ah, Kelly…”
I looked at her. “Yes, Mrs. Anderson?”
She smiled. “Emily will sit there.”
Oh, right! She invited Emily too. I nodded and looked at Snow. I would just carry Snow. I was about to get inside when Ana came in first and carried Snow, who was smiling sweetly at me.
“I’ll sit here, ma’am. Snow needs her nanny.”
My forehead creased as I looked inside the car again. Phoebe had told me not to bring my car, but…

“Mom, I told you we can just use the bigger car,” Pierce said, suddenly appearing behind me.
Oh God! They’re at it again!
Mrs. Anderson gasped. “Oh, right! You’re going with us. Too bad the bigger car is in the repair shop.”
“Huh?” Pierce looked really shocked, and I crossed my arms. Is he pretending, or does he really not know what they’re planning?
“One seat was broken. I told one of the guards to have it fixed,” Mrs. Anderson added.
Pierce frowned. “Mom…”
“Just use your car, Pierce.”
Before Pierce could say anything else, I grabbed his arm and looked at Snow. “Pumpkin, mommy and daddy will ride in a separate car.”
“It’s okay, mommy!” Snow looked very energetic.
I shook my head and closed the car door before turning to Pierce, whose lips were parted. He was staring down at me, so I chuckled and shook my head again. “You see what they’re doing? They’re framing us.”
He scratched the back of his head and smirked. “You’re right…”
I walked toward his car, which was parked in the garage. I sat in the passenger seat and watched as the car in front of us drove away. Pierce entered the driver’s seat and turned the engine on.
I looked at him. He was wearing cargo shorts, gumboots, and a black t-shirt. He had sunglasses on as he sat handsomely in the driver’s seat. “You want music?” That’s fine.
He smiled and turned on the radio. He started to drive, humming along to the song. We just followed the car in front of us, and as I stared at it, I couldn’t help but think about how my friends and my own daughter had betrayed me.

“What are you thinking?” Pierce asked after noticing me shaking my head.
I chuckled. “I just can’t believe how our daughter betrayed us…”
My words trailed off as I realized what I had just said. Pierce glanced at me, and while his eyes were filled with happiness, I could still see the confusion in them.
I cleared my throat. “Uhm. I mean… Snow treats you like her own father.”
He clenched his jaw and nodded before forcing a smile. I could tell it was strained. He was starting to doubt my actions and how I referred to him as Snow’s father—twice. He cleared his throat.
“How’s Klay Carver? Is he… still bothering you?”
I bit my bottom lip and shook my head. “He’s not contacting me anymore. After the fire incident, he hasn’t reached out.”
I saw his eyes harden. “Do you think he was the one behind the fire?”
“I don’t know. I blamed him, but he fiercely denied doing it.”
“I can help you, Kelly. Only if you allow me to.”
“You don’t need to,” I said, shaking my head. “I already have someone investigating everything.”
“Just… let me know if you need anything.”
I nodded, but the atmosphere had become awkward, so I squeezed my eyes closed and decided to sleep. Pierce woke me up when we reached our destination.
I was in awe when I saw the place. The view was breathtaking.
Amazed, I got out of the car and took in the scenery. The road was elevated, and from where I stood, I could see the stunning view of the sea and the entire resort. Pierce stood beside me.
“You like it?” he asked.
I glanced at him and smiled, nodding. “Yes, it’s breathtaking.”
“Let’s go. They’re already inside.”
“Okay.”
“I’ll carry our bags.”
I followed Pierce and closed the backseat door after he grabbed our bags. I led the way down the stairs toward the resort. I couldn’t help but admire the beauty of nature until I spotted Emily standing in front of the resort’s hotel, talking to someone on the phone.
“Why are you being so sentimental over a one-night stand, Matt? Why don’t you just thank me for giving you such an…”
“Amazing experience? And please, if you want to sleep with me again, just tell me straight. No need to be dramatic.”
I grimaced and walked past her. Emily felt my presence and looked at me, smirking. I just shook my head.
“Too much information, Em,” I heard Pierce say as he walked past Emily.
“Just work on your courting techniques, Anderson. I think your tactics are too old-fashioned, that’s why it’s not working.”
I looked at them. Pierce stopped walking and glared at Emily, who was smirking triumphantly as she put her hand on her hip.
“Funny,” she said with a laugh.
She walked towards me, wrapped her arm around mine, and dragged me inside the hotel as she whispered, “The hotel is nice, huh? Perfect place for all-night sex.”
My cheeks immediately burned in embarrassment, not because she was being too vulgar, but because she said it while Pierce was walking beside us. I saw him stiffen and slowly glance our way.
I swallowed hard and pinched Emily’s side. She just giggled, looking at us. “Unfortunately, your mother-in-law reserved one room for you two.”
“Huh?” My eyes widened in shock. “One room?”
She winked at me and bit her forefinger. “The hotel is fully booked, by the way. Good luck!”
My lips parted as I watched Emily walk away. When I looked at Pierce, he was staring at my face intently, making me even more embarrassed and awkward.
