Chapter 170:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Emily’s POV
I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy when Kelly told me today that she and Pierce had gotten back together. Her forever was beginning, and I knew she deserved it. But I still couldn’t understand my own luck in love. It always seemed to end tragically. My fiancé died. My past relationships fell apart. Klay was never right for me—he only used me. And now, here I am, alone.
“Emily!”
I rolled my eyes at the sound of that familiar, annoying voice. I dropped the bills onto the counter and grabbed my bag, ready to leave, but I could already feel him stalking me from behind.
I rolled my eyes again. God, I thought. I’d already succeeded with my plan to make him investigate his father. I knew he wouldn’t stop now that he had discovered something, but why did he have to chase me?
“EMILY! I’M NOT GOING TO STOP FOLLOWING YOU UNTIL YOU STOP RUNNING AWAY AND TALK TO ME!”
My jaw almost dropped as people in the bar turned to look at us. Some were annoyed, others were laughing or mocking us.
F**k! I angrily took another step forward, trying to ignore him, but he shouted again like a mad dog.

“I’LL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! I SAID, TALK TO ME AND STOP RUNNING AWAY! I ALREADY TOLD YOU I’LL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CHILD INSIDE YOU!”
My eyes widened at his words. I turned to face him, seeing the saddest expression on his face. The crowd was murmuring, and I suddenly felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me for the first time in my life because of his reckless antics.
Angry, I rushed back to him, grabbing the collar of his dress shirt. I dragged him out of the bar and slammed him against the hood of my car.
“You bastard! What did you just say?”
He smirked, unfazed. “You won’t talk to me, so I promised myself I’d make you. By hook or by crook.”
I glared at him, furious. “And you think what you just did was funny?”
His playful expression slowly faded, replaced by a serious look as he stared into my eyes. “I’m not looking for something funny, Emily.”
“Then why did you do it?”
“To make you talk to me.”
“Well, now we’re talking. Are you satisfied?”
The corner of his lips curved upward again, but his eyes darkened. “I’m not satisfied yet, Emily. I want you to give me an assurance.”
Emily’s POV
My forehead creased. “Assurance?”
“Be my girlfriend.”
I burst out laughing, caught off guard by his words. I stared at him in disbelief, still laughing, while he just looked at me with a serious expression.
As my laughter slowly faded, I realized he wasn’t joking.
“You’re serious?”
His jaw clenched. “Dead serious.”
I chuckled again and pointed at myself. “Me? Are you sure you want me to be your girlfriend, Matt Foster? You don’t even know me.”
His jaw clenched again, more tightly this time. “The information about you was hidden, Emily.”
I smirked, crossing my arms. “So, you tried to do a background check on me?”
“You wouldn’t tell me anything other than your name. At first, I thought you were just interested in me because we slept together, but now…”
My brow shot up. “Didn’t you get it, Matt? I was interested. Was. But not anymore.”
His eyes narrowed. “Don’t you f**king tell me that you sleep with everyone you’re interested in.”
“I won’t tell you then,” I replied, my voice steady.
He grabbed my arm, his grip firm, and stared into my eyes with a dark intensity. “You gave yourself to me, Emily. You can’t play games anymore.”
I smirked. “I didn’t know the soft boy from the Foster family was so possessive. Tell me, Matt Foster—did you fall in love with me at first f**k?”
He gritted his teeth. “You don’t call it that.”
“Then what was it? Making love? Come on, that’s lame.”
“Then so be it. But you’re mine.”
“What?” I asked, taken aback.
Without warning, he crashed his lips onto mine. Whether I wanted to admit it or not, he was a very good kisser. His tongue and lips were full of temptation, and I couldn’t deny the pull he had on me. In the end, I kissed him back, matching the intensity of his hunger. I felt his hand on my waist, caressing me, and just as his hand was about to reach further, he stopped and looked at me.
Playfulness returned to his eyes.
“You kissed back. You’re now my girlfriend.”
“What?!”
He smirked. “I told myself that if you kissed back, you’d be my girlfriend.”
My eyes widened in shock. I was so stunned that when he snatched my phone, I couldn’t move. He typed something quickly, and then his phone rang from his pants pocket.
He waved my phone in front of my face before slipping it back into my bag.
“My number’s already in there,” he said with a smirk. “See you tomorrow, girlfriend. You’re still single tonight, so you’re free to stay home alone. But starting tomorrow, you’ll have to endure me.”
I was still in shock as he called a taxi for me. He tapped the roof of the car, reminding the driver to take me to my destination safely.
God, did I just get myself into big trouble? What just happened?
