Chapter 275:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Clifford’s face turned pale after recognizing some people in the photo.
“What’s wrong with you? I’ve told you many times to leave these small businesses alone, they are no threat to us. Don’t waste your time with them.”
Clifford was embarrassed to be scolded by his brother, “Brother, I didn’t know there were so many people supporting Hayden. Violet told me she was just an ex-girlfriend of Joseph Beckham. What’s so good about her…”.
“Violet?” Clifford’s brother bristled at the mention of Clifford’s name, “You’re still messing with that girl, are you crazy?”
“You’re grounded!” Clifford’s brother yelled at him and stormed out of the room before he could explain himself.
The room regained silence after that.
Clifford tore the newspaper into pieces and threw them in the trash.
Suddenly, the phone rang. Clifford glanced at the phone screen and winced.
Clifford took the call, “How dare you call me now – haven’t you seen the news?”
The person on the other end of the phone was stunned for a second, but quickly answered in a sweet tone.
“Mr. Barton, don’t be angry with me, isn’t it a good thing that you knew your enemy’s background through this incident?”.
“A good thing?” Clifford let out a snort of disgust, “You think I’m an idiot? You know my brother yelled at me?”
“Well, all he could do was yell, he wasn’t going to cause you any harm. See, now you’re yelling at me too, did I get mad at you?”.
Clifford was stunned. He paused and calmed down.
“I’m having a bad day, where are you now? I want to see you.”
“I’ve made a reservation at a bar just outside, it’s near the river. I’ll see you there.”
Clifford looked different after he hung up the phone, he seemed happy now. Clifford quickly grabbed his coat and left the office. There was no trace of being scolded on his face.
The glory belonged to Violet, she was a popular celebrity and knew how to please a man. Even if Clifford took the blame this time, he was doing it willingly for Violet.

Everything that happened was just the beginning of a chaotic drama.
That night, Hayden partied with the people who had helped her during the press conference at a nearby restaurant. Afterward, he drove Scarlett home.
“Hayden, I can’t stop you from taking over the Downey Group and I won’t, but remember this, the Downey Group is just an empty shell with no use. The old staff won’t do you any good, remember to get rid of them when you get there.”
Scarlett warned Hayden in the car. It was obvious she didn’t want Hayden to get involved in the trouble the Downey Group was in.
But what was done was done. There was no better way to get his reputation back than this.
“I understand, Aunt Scarlett. I’m not a kid anymore, you can trust me.” Hayden felt an inner warmth and took Scarlett’s hand, “Aunt Scarlett, thank you for helping me today. To be honest, I used to hold a grudge against you before. I’m so sorry.”
When Hayden’s grandfather passed away, Scarlett kicked Hayden out of the hospital and sent her to the Downey mansion that night. That cruel look on Scarlett’s face was Hayden’s nightmare for many years.
Looking back on what happened after many years had passed, Scarlett was the most heartbroken person .
