Chapter 106:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
“William, she won’t get well anytime soon and you can’t be that selfish either, can you? I can’t stand the long wait. I have to forget you and start my life all over again.”
Then Sherry said again, “Do you think she’ll get better in a year or two? How long do I have to wait? Your father will never agree. I can’t have Sammy, I can’t have you, all I have left is torment. The only thing I can do for you is to let go of your hand and let you take care of her. If I wait any longer, I’m afraid I’ll become like her, I might lose my mind too. Don’t let me become an extremist, okay?”
He sighed, thoughtfully, “But…. I can’t live without you!”
His expression was very painful. After a long moment, he added, “Sherry, why are you trying to be this strong at a time like this? Why can’t you be a little less selfish? You know that, if you tell me not to take care of her, I won’t take care of her, don’t you?”.
“But you’ve already made up your mind!”
“Have I?” he asked.
She smiled. Crystalline tears slipped down her cheek, wetting her. He held her face and kissed both cheeks.
“William, you’re so stupid! You’ve lost me! You’ve really chosen a patient! You’d rather choose a patient over me! But I am proud and gratified that the man I fell in love with is not so cold-blooded!”
Her heart ached even more, as if a knife were piercing it. Her tears fell, and she took a deep breath, swallowing them.
Sherry’s big eyes met his, “When you kissed me desperately and said you would marry me, I already knew you couldn’t ignore her and that you had to take care of her endlessly. You are the only person she knows. I think she must love you to the core and that’s why she only remembers you. She has nothing else. William, you are the most important person she can trust. You are the strength and the sources that could make her better.”
“Sherry, how can you know me so well and see through me so well?” he whispered hugging her tightly, as if he wanted to melt her into his own body.
“The sympathy and guilt you feel for her has overtaken us all, including your guilt towards your father, Sammy and me. Just because she is a patient and we are all healthy. William… I know you don’t have a choice!” Sherry pushed him away and took a deep breath.
“Don’t worry about me. I still have Sammy and Dan, I’m only twenty-three, I’m still beautiful and young. Even if I can’t stand loneliness a few years down the road, I can still find a man to marry, I can still live a happy life! But I’m still jealous of her because she’s got you worried! William let me tell you, if she were healthy, she would never let you go. I’m afraid I would never let go of your hand even for my son, but…”
He placed the ring on her hand and gripped it tightly, “This is the last time I hold you, the last time I have you! From now on, I will learn to be very selfish, I will fall in love and find a man to marry, don’t worry about me!”
“Sherry, listen to me – go live in Villa No. 15! Take Dan with you and live there!” he growled deeply, not knowing how to make it up to her.
“Okay, then he’s mine!” She agreed, just wanting to reassure him, “I want that villa and I want that notebook too.”

“Sherry!” He called her name in a hoarse voice. He wasn’t going to fall in love again because there was no woman bigger than her.
“Well, I should be going now. William, I should go!” Sherry smiled, tiptoeing up to kiss his lips, telling herself it was the last time.
“Take care of her easy, you can do it!” She smiled.
Tears swirled in her eyes, rolling down her cheeks. Then she turned away, “Goodbye, William! Don’t come to see me again!”
“No! Sherry! Don’t be so cruel!” he grabbed her hand, pulling her into his arms, “Sherry, don’t be so cruel!” He hugged her tightly.
Then he held her cheeks with both hands and kissed her eyes, her nose, her mouth, her cheeks…. His tears intertwined with hers.
Then he pressed her head against his chest again, “No!” He struggled, “How can I let go of your hand?”
“You can! In this world, the one who leaves, always survives! It’ll be okay! Just like when I lost Sammy and Luke, I thought the sky had fallen, But the sky is still there! So, William, you can let it go!”
He was stunned at her words, feeling shocked and bewildered, “Sherry, you know what you’re doing is more hurtful. Neither of you will be happy.”
“What is the definition of happiness, that the other person smiles or lives well? In fact, happiness is two people living together all their lives, holding hands and growing old together. So I want to find my happiness too. You are Lucille’s happiness. Even if you hold my hand and I hold your hand, can we find happiness? Won’t you have guilt for the rest of your life? William, if you have no conscience of guilt, why did you leave me to go to France to find it? Did you know that when you left me I had no money?”
“Sherry…” William grabbed her hand, but she merely smiled.
“I didn’t know, I didn’t realize!” Yes, he left in a hurry, just arranged for the driver to take him to the airport and forgot that she had no money.
“I’m sorry!” He didn’t know what to say, except to apologize.
“I don’t want your apology. I know you were too anxious, which also showed that your guilt is too deep. So, William, let go!”
She gave a glance at his large, slender hand that held her small hand tightly. She stretched out her hand and then spread her fingers apart one by one.
“Let go!”
“Sherry!” With her hand empty, William felt as if the air was painful. Even breathing was so painful that his heart almost stopped.
Sherry opened the door and Liam gave him a worried look.
He had overheard parts of their conversation, “Sherry…”.
Sherry wiped her tears with her hands and smiled. Her face gave the impression of a sun flower in full bloom, so clear and bright.
“Liam, help take care of Miss Mclean! Maybe getting married will be the best help for her.”
“Sherry!” William whispered behind her.
“William, marry her. I think what she’s worried about is that you didn’t marry her. Maybe marriage is better than any kind of medication. goodbye!” She walked to the door, turned and flashed a beautiful, bright smile at them both, “Goodbye, William! Goodbye, Liam!”
She closed the door as Liam looked at her stunned. William slumped on the couch, hands clenched at his sides.
Had he finally lost her?
Liam looked at William and then chased her outside. However, she had disappeared. Running wildly, Sherry didn’t know how long she had run or where she had gotten to.
It appeared to be a public square.
She was sweaty as if she had been running for a long time. Sherry wanted to smile, but she felt too helpless and miserable; she wanted to cry, but she was too tired to utter a sound.
She sat on a bench and stared blankly at the traffic. She had lost it. Or maybe she never had. But she had no regrets. The man she loved was responsible and conscientious, that was enough!
Sherry smiled and shouted, “William! You must take good care of Lucille and help her recover, otherwise everything I did will be in vain. You must…”.
She pulled out her phone and found his contact on her phone. She lovingly stroked the screen of her phone, touching the two numbers longingly over and over again. Finally she pressed the delete option viciously.
Seeing that the number was gone suddenly made her heart ache so much. Tears ran down her cheeks, wetting the floor next to her feet.
Sherry couldn’t help but softly whisper, “Goodbye, William.” She deleted the contact number, but how do you erase memories? …
A week later.
“Hey, what’s the matter, why haven’t you been out lately?” Celia felt strange every time she came over, “Sherry, how long have you been home?”
“It’s been a week!” Sherry just smiled, “I’m thinking about finding a job. I’m going to start hitting on it.”
“A job? Where, did William accept? Where is he, by the way?” Celia was puzzled.
“Celia, I broke up with him.” Sherry said calmly.
Her sentence fell on Celia like a bombshell, stunning her for a moment.
“What?”
“I broke up with William!” repeated Sherry calmly again.
“Why? Today isn’t April Fool’s Day, is it? Don’t scare me like that!” Celia was astonished. Then she became angry, “Why did they break up, I’m going to find him! That jerk, didn’t he say he loved you? But he broke up in just a few weeks?”
“Don’t go looking for him. He’s even sadder than I am.” Sherry shook her head, “Celia, don’t go ask him, okay?”
“If you don’t tell me why you two broke up then I’ll go ask him.”
Sherry nodded, “Okay, I’ll tell you.”
Slowly she told Celia what had happened. Her heart seemed to ease the moment he finished speaking because every word he said made her heart ache like being stabbed with a knife.
But the pain subsided. He lifted his head and finally a smile bloomed on his lips.
“I’m going into the room. Please don’t ask him anything, okay? I’m begging you.”
“Sherry, how can you be so stupid, how can you let go of your love? You confess your love and then ask for a breakup, You’re so stupid! There are psychiatric hospitals for the Mclean Family, why does William have to take care of her? I really don’t get it, you guys are either really stupid or really noble! Fuck him.”
Celia cursed violently and kicked the couch.
“What about you and these five years, does he feel guilty towards you?”
“Celia, it’s really okay. It’s been a week. I’m very calm now and my conscience is at peace. I feel free. Don’t make my conscience feel uneasy. Don’t make it worry, okay?” She finished saying, turned around and walked into her bedroom.
She buried her face in the bedspread and stayed like that, silent. Because of her, Celia was very surprised and lost.
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
Who could be here? Celia angrily went to open the door.
As soon as she opened it, she saw Liam, “What are you doing here?”.
Liam took a look at Celia’s posture. She looked ready to fight.
“Celia, have I offended you?”
“People who know and are close to William have offended me.” Celia said irritably, refusing to let him in.
“What are you doing here?”
