Chapter 115:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
William couldn’t accept that he wouldn’t see Sherry anymore; he would be angry about it. He almost ran out of voice to say, “Do you love me? You do! Why are you letting me go?”
Sherry looked at him and said, “I don’t love you anymore, okay?” She talked about this to hurt William. But if she didn’t, she would still keep William with her.
Sherry hated feeling so embarrassed.
“I love you because you were a trustworthy man! Now, look at you! You’re not determined, you’re not even cheating on me-how can I love you anymore?” But she was still heartbroken at the sight of William’s wound on her face.
He turned to leave; she was almost going to stay with him to melt her loneliness and sadness. However, in such an entanglement involving three people, she would be a sure loser.

Lucille had to live with William all her life.
Without William, how could Lucille go on living? Sherry hated to see Lucille live like the walking dead just because Sherry herself was selfish to keep William with her.
Even if she managed to keep William with her, she would not be rid of the problems she caused Lucille forever.
In the end, Sherry preferred to be the heartless one.
William said sadly, “Well. I’ll go…”
Sherry gave a cold reply, “Goodbye!” William left.
When the door closed, Sherry couldn’t have been sorrier. Just then, she heard a noise in the kitchen and soon the foul smell of something burning came to her, causing her discomfort.
Then she remembered that the fried eggs must have been burnt. The kitchen and the room were filled with the burning smell that could not be finished.
Sherry became nauseous and turned off the gas to go to the bathroom. But she only retched, with nothing coming out.
When she felt better, she stood by the sink to look at herself and began to look pale in the face.
She became terribly afraid…. Her period should have come two weeks ago…. But now?
No. Sherry panicked. She instinctively touched her belly.
If she really kept the baby with William, they wouldn’t get to break up.
Coming out of the bathroom, Sherry sat down on the couch and burst into tears.
She looked outside to see the plane trees without many leaves. It was winter then…
The leaves would be off the trees, even if they didn’t want to be. Anyway, Sherry knew she had to let William go.
She couldn’t take the result of keeping him. She couldn’t take anything she liked in the world.
Sherry decided to do everything she could to keep William from feeling guilty. Then her phone rang.
She took the unexpected call from John, asking, “Hello, Mr. John Rowland, when are you going to let Dan come back with me? He’s my son.”
John asked, “You just asked about Dan, what about Sammy, are you going to give up the child?”.
Sherry was stunned and said, “Excuse me, Mr. Rowland?”.
John said, “I said I’ll let Sammy come back to be with you.”
“But…”
Before Sherry could continue to say more, John interrupted her, “Sherry, can I meet with you to talk? I’m in the alley outside your house. Please come see me.”
Sherry was surprised to hear him, “You’re there.
He may have been secretly stalking her, or how did he know her home address? But John said he would let Sammy come back.
Sherry kept her cool. She knew John might have to make the choice after comparing Lucille to her.
She was the next best; at least she was better than Lucille, who couldn’t deliver a baby.
Sherry smiled bitterly; parents always worried about their children.
John tried to keep his own son in mind as much as possible, but he didn’t know what William was really thinking about.
What a shame for the father! After losing his wife, John should feel very lonely in his life for not marrying anyone else, how deeply he loved his wife! He was greatly respected for it.
Seeing John, who was somber, without a smile, Sherry began to think about William.
She didn’t know how he was doing.
Sherry called out to him in discomfort, “Mr. John Rowland.”
John said, “Sherry, how would you feel about letting Sammy come back to you.”
Although Sherry had already received the news over the phone, she was still shocked by what she heard then.
She asked, “Why are you changing your mind?”
John asked instead of answering, “Did you really break up with William?”.
Sherry said with a smile, “You hear all about it.”
John looked doubtful, “What’s the reason?”.
Sherry raised her head and replied, “It’s not working out between us. Since I can predict the outcome, we don’t need to stay together any longer. Besides, what are you asking to let Sammy come back?”.
John looked at her with his sharp eyes and said, “You’re smart!”
He found, as young as Sherry was, she was calm, but with some sorrow in her eyes.
“Mr. John Rowland, may I call you Mr. Rowland? You are very old in the family and also Sammy’s grandfather; I thank you very much for letting Sammy come back. But I know I can’t take him at this time.”
The answer surprised John, and he asked, “Why?”
Sherry calmly said, “Because I wouldn’t want my son to be a condition of a deal. Sammy is just a child. I’m asking you not to, Mr. Rowland, please don’t negotiate with me about my son. I won’t accept it.”
“Why?” John asked again, “What if I accept your relationship, will you promise me?”
“Mr. Rowland, do you choose me as the third person in the relationship, or do you choose Miss Lucille Mclean?”
John wasn’t expecting the question, “Are you negotiating with me now?”
“No. How could I? I just know that Sammy needs his dad and mom, but he was unlucky to have both of them together. You said you will let Sammy come back with me; I also see that you have some condition for it. The condition is so nice that Miss Mclean has been waiting for years, but she didn’t get it. Finally, I will get it with my son. I should be happy with this. But, Mr. Rowland, I am as foolish as I am self-willed; I know that, if I were to accept your condition, I should feel guilty about owing Miss Mclean all my life.”
John did not expect Sherry to refuse his offer and give such a reason. He saw her power in the young woman’s eyes.
He said, “Sherry, can I verify that the reason you turned down my offer is to help William and Lucille?”
Sherry said quietly, “No, I’m not that nice to them. I’m helping myself. Sammy needs his father and he’ll be fine if he lives with William. I won’t stay with William; I won’t stay with Sammy either since he is your grandson. You will not give up your grandson easily. You are very powerful. Why would he try to fight you?” She was not sincere in talking about it.
She knew how sad he was then.
What happened to her? Was she giving up on her son? No! She wasn’t giving up on Sammy! She just couldn’t take him at that moment.
John asked, “You mean, if I don’t offer you the condition and just let you see Sammy, you won’t take him with you?”
“Sure, Mr. Rowland, if you allow me to see Sammy without any conditions, I’m sure I won’t take him with me. Anyway, he’s your grandson; I’ll be glad to see him once in a while. I’m very sorry about Sammy. I’m not a good mother, but I still hate to leave a terrible memory for my little boy. I just try to love him as much as possible.”
“Don’t you want to be William’s wife?” John was totally astonished, “Did you have a good trip in Hokkaido?”
Sherry lowered her head and controlled her sadness, she just said, “Mr. Rowland, what is happiness?”
John said with a frown; he began to fear there was something wrong with his inquiry, “So, you said you were unhappy?”
“We were very cheerful at first. But Miss Mclean showed herself, and then I was left somewhere in a strange country without even a penny with me. Do you think I was happy?”
Sherry raised her head; her eyes were clear to show she wanted less. John asked further, “Do you hate William?”
Sherry shook her head, “No, I don’t hate him. He’s a man of confidence which is unusual in the modern world. I think he’ll make a good partner, but he doesn’t belong to me.”
“I only hope you can marry William.” John watched her eyes, only to see her insouciance and boldness.
He knew she was hard to persuade.
Sherry said with a smile, “Mr. Rowland, you make me the offer only because Miss Mclean can’t have a baby. If I could, you would say no to her marriage. You are a perfect couple and you love each other, so why say no? Finally, Miss Mclean can’t have a baby, so I had one for William in our deal. Mr. Rowland, you don’t like Miss Mclean just because of her infertility; you don’t like me because of my poor family and my guilt. Comparing between us, I should be worse than she is; you should give me favored treatment. I was a surrogate mother. Now you think again, but you choose me as William’s wife; I appreciate your choice very much! But I will not marry William!”
“You’re still smart!” John scoffed, “If you don’t agree, I may not let you see Sammy forever.”
“Mr. Rowland, are you that cruel?” Sherry observed him without any fear. “You’re a father; you know what fathers think for their children; are you so mean as to do it to me?”
“Do you think I’m going to let you see him? If someone else married William, should I let Sammy meet his birth mom?”
Sherry couldn’t do anything and got up; she was leaving, “Please give her a good stepmother.”
“Sherry, change my mind! You are perfect for William’s wife, with great courage and no emotional connection to anything. This is the first time I’ve met a woman who is willing to give up her child.”
Without saying anything, Sherry remained quiet and stubborn.
John continued, “Don’t you have anything to say?”
Sherry took a deep breath to hold back tears.
