Chapter 126:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
“Rebellious son!” Jhon’s hawkish gaze bunched up and precipitated excruciating anger, “What good is that woman? She’s always pretending to be pitiful-what’s worth clinging to?”
William looked at his father with a complicated look, and even at this moment, he didn’t understand why his father hated Lucille so much, “Lucille is not that kind of person! Dad, you used to oppose us. I know you don’t like her, and when you found out she was infertile, you hated her even more. Lucille has become like that, so don’t say such nasty things!”
“Rebellious son!” John’s anger rose. “I just hate that woman. Even if she could give birth to ten children, I still hate her!”
“And what about Sherry, didn’t you object to her at first too?” John’s face stiffened a little.
“I accept Sherry! I didn’t like her at first, but Sherry is a hundred times better than Lucille. Just listen to my words, hurry up and leave Lucille. If she went crazy or died, that’s the Mclean Family’s business. It has nothing to do with us.”
“How can you be so heartless?” A wave of anger burst from William. “Dad, I know how good Sherry is. I just want her in my life, don’t worry about this! I’m only taking responsibility for Lucille.”
“William, Sherry is willing to sacrifice so much for you, why won’t you consider the woman’s feelings?” John’s words made William freeze, a pang of pain came to his heart.
After taking a deep breath, he smoked a cigarette and stopped talking.
“Go back to work tomorrow. I’ve told the Mclean Family about the Lucille affair, and I’ve let Caelan Mclean by herself pick up her daughter again. What good is living in the MH Residence?” John was an old man, after all, AND he was only worried about his daughter-in-law running away! He had examined Sherry, and the key was that she had a son, Dan.
He liked the boy wholeheartedly. Whether the Rowland Group passed on the grandson wasn’t important, The key was how to carry him forward!
“Dad, I’ve thought about it. The thing is, Lucille only recognizes me. If I send her away, what if she gets more serious?” said William worriedly.
“Isn’t that better? Plunging into illusion than living in reality is much happier. Being mad can be very happy too! Besides, she’s not a beggar. She still has the Mclean Family, why do you have to take responsibility, who are you, come back immediately or I’ll badmouth you in front of Sherry!” John’s mouth was as if he was carrying a cunning plan. “Let her know how close you were to Lucille in the past, and let her leave you on her own!”
“What’s in it for you to do that?” How could there be such a father? William’s face paled.
“There’s no benefit, but I can’t stand to see you taking care of Lucille!” John was also known for his stubbornness. “These days, you’ve been so busy, and I haven’t made a move. If you still want to keep taking care of her, then I’ll let someone drive her completely insane so she won’t even know you! Then she can only stay in a mental hospital!”
“Dad!” William’s eyes widened. He had never known his father to be so ruthless. “How can you treat a sick woman like that?”
“Well! If you don’t listen, don’t be sorry when you lose Sherry. I tell you, there aren’t many women in this world who can sacrifice themselves in silence! If you don’t cherish her, beware of being taken away by others!” William suddenly understood John. “Yesterday, Riley called me to tell me that Sherry went to a room with a man. That was your intention, wasn’t it?” John snorted coldly.
That look was unmistakable, so what if it was me? As irritating as his father’s behavior was, it was indirectly helping him reconcile with Sherry, but his father was right.
Could Sherry continue to sacrifice herself, and how could he bear to see her wronged?
“Get back to work, find a way to get Sherry to work at the Rowland Group, what good is being that old pervert Cohen’s secretary? Cohen hasn’t done anything yet, but his stepson has! Yesterday, Riley and I saw with our own eyes that man named Keegan take Sherry to his car!”
“Ah!” William felt that a great rival had appeared. “I’ll go find Sherry and ask her to resign!”
“She won’t accept!” said John.
“How do you know her so well?”
“Because I talked to her about the conditions, she can give up Sammy just so that the child was not made as a bargaining chip. Would a woman who picked up someone else’s child, raised and educated it so well, willingly give up her own child? With this affair, it shows that she is an open-minded woman, Just like your mother!” William was abruptly stunned, for how many years, he had never heard his father praise a woman, but he did not expect his father to praise Sherry.
His heart had a little more comfort this time. John would not oppose his marriage-he would get Lucille well as soon as possible, and then he would marry Sherry without any burden!
“Papa! I’ll marry Sherry, aren’t you satisfied?” William suddenly felt his eyes grow hot.
“What’s the use of being satisfied, it’s not certain who’s my daughter-in-law! Not sure who the daughter-in-law is, maybe it’s Cohen’s, but Dan said he wants his mom to marry Keegan and have a taller sister who can be a model!”
“What?” William sat up at this and fumed fiercely. “That kid really said that?”
“And he said he hadn’t seen you for over a month. He doesn’t like you anymore.”
Dan’s quirky appearance came to mind, and William didn’t get angry or furious and got up immediately.
“Dad, I’ll think of a way to get Sherry to quit her job first!”
“When do you plan to go to the company?”
“Tomorrow!” said William and walked away.
John smiled, though it was a slight curve at the corner of his lips, his face was no longer stiff and indifferent. This had to be the most they had spoken between father and son in all these years.
Everything had changed because of Sherry’s appearance. Was it the will of heaven?
John glanced at the photo on the desk. She was a serene, beautiful woman with a pair of beautiful eyes…and those eyes made John think of Dan.
The boy had those kind of eyes, too….
Sherry was sorting through the documents at hand when, suddenly, Cohen stormed back into the company and pushed open the door to Sherry’s office. She froze, stood up, surprised and worried, asking, “Mr. Sutton, didn’t you say you weren’t coming back this afternoon, is there something urgent?”
Cohen’s expression looked a little agitated. He looked at Sherry and tried to stifle his emotions as he asked quietly, “Sherry, no, nothing!”
Sherry frowned slightly and also sighed in relief, “So, what are the orders, Mr. Sutton?”
“No, nothing!” Cohen looked at her.
His eyes were complex, making Sherry a little puzzled. She looked down at herself. There was nothing wrong with her. The stain that spilled in the morning she had also fixed in the bathroom.
“So, what do you want, Mr. Sutton?” asked Sherry.
Cohen immediately shook his head, “Nothing, Sherry, find me the resumes from the day you applied for the job, I’ll take a look at them.”
“All of them?” asked Sherry.
“Yes, all of them!” Cohen just wanted her date of birth because suddenly something occurred to him.
“Then I’ll go to the archives and look it up and wait a while. I’ll send it to his office,” Sherry said, and got up to get it.
Not long afterward, Sherry carried a stack of file materials into Mr. Sutton’s office and handed it to Cohen, who picked it up and looked through it.
Sherry gave him a confused look. He seemed to be looking for something with great eagerness. Her gaze lacked its usual elegance.
Cohen found in Sherry, the father’s column she had written: Clark Murray, the father, and the mother, Sierra Anderson.
Clark? Then take a look at the date of birth. It was March 19. Cohen was shocked. His whole person froze and his face was unusually pale.
“Mr. Sutton, are you all right?”
“No, I’m not okay!” Cohen shook his head and glanced at the date again to make sure it wasn’t a mistake. “Sherry, your birth date is accurate, isn’t it?”
“Yes! Can it be faked?” said Sherry as she smiled.
“Of course, it is!…”
At that moment, Cohen felt only boundless surprise in his heart, looking at the girl in front of him, his emotions were unusually complicated, was it possible, is there any chance, would Cohen still have relatives in this world?
It seemed that something was slowly coming out of his body, in the darkness, Cohen felt a particular place in his heart slowly revive. Taking a look at Sherry’s face, which bore some resemblance to his own nose, he was sure that she, Sherry Murray, was his daughter if she had indeed been born on that date.
His eyes were full of pity, which made Sherry feel something wrong. She thought Mr. Sutton was a womanizer, became on her guard, and hastened to say, “Mr. Sutton, I’ll go first!”
“Sherry!” shouted Cohen urgently, but Sherry ran off.
Cohen noticed and wondered if he had startled her. Sherry’s panicked exit caused Keegan, who was about to enter Mr. Sutton’s office, to look a little surprised, “Sherry, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, nothing!” Sherry shook her head in panic. She bit her lips and tried to make her voice clearer, “I’m going to work!”.
Mr. Sutton was scary now. She had to get away.
Keegan knocked on the door, entered and saw Cohen sitting in the big armchair with a stupefied face, his expression indescribably complicated.
“Foster father, the matter you asked me to investigate I have clearly already investigated!”
“Report!” Cohen’s mood adjusted.
“Sierra’s husband’s name is Clark, who is Sherry’s father. Their marriage was like a flash. They were married after three months of knowing each other, had a daughter and a son after the marriage. Eight years ago Clark died in a freak car accident, also in the same year, Sierra married Payne Jones. Six years ago, son Luke Murray died of congenital heart disease.”
“She married Payne Jones eight years ago?” Cohen raised his eyebrows, “How many years have we been out of jail?”
“Eight years!” Keegan said.
“Well! You come on out. I want to be alone.” Cohen’s whole body was sunk deeply into the big chair.
Keegan glanced around, just sensed that his foster father was somewhat quiet, saw the side of his face and wanted to say something, but finally, he didn’t.
“Father, I’m going out then!”
“Okay!” Cohen shuddered and tried to reach for a cigarette.
Keegan understood, pulled out a cigarette, handed him one and helped him light it. As Keegan lit it, he noticed that his foster father’s lips holding the cigarette were trembling a little, and his breathing also seemed to be heavy along with it.
“Father, are you all right?” asked Keegan with concern.
“Keegan, just come out!” Again, his voice was despondent as he hurried people out. “Don’t let anyone bother me!”
“Okay!” Keegan had to get out.
All the way to almost the end of the day, Cohen didn’t leave the office, and Keegan ran to look at the closed door several times, then looked back at Sherry, with the same complicated eyes .
