Chapter 135:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
His hands were clenched tightly, his chest hurt so bad as if he was going to cough up blood! He was on fire.
The sensation was indescribable, as if resentment, pain and numbness had knotted together in the most horrible way.
“Sherry!” William grabbed her, not letting go.
“Let go!” she still smiled.
But her hands were cold, too cold, as if her bones were frozen. William held her hands tightly, his eyes full of anguish. He wanted to help warm her hands, but he realized he couldn’t do it no matter how hard he tried. His hands were still cold, he felt extremely cold all over his body.
Tears slipped silently from the corners of her eyes, “Sherry, I’m sorry!”

She was still smiling, “It’s okay, everyone has a past. I really don’t care.”
The more she smiled, the more insecure he felt and feared losing her. Her smile was so dazzling that he would rather she hit him, throw herself into his embrace and question him.
But the more rational she behaved, the more afraid he felt.
“Sherry, don’t scare me!” she murmured, her voice trembling with fear.
His ear full of regret as his thumb stroked her bitten lip. She sighed in her heart, still wearing a beautiful smile. However, her smile did not locate her eyes.
“No, I’m not trying to scare you. You’ve brought me here long enough; I must go to work!”
“I’ll take you.” She exhaled bitterly.
“No need!” she said extremely quickly, “I’ll take a cab. Take care of Lucille.”
“Sherry, I’ll take you!” he insisted.
She refused no more, “All right.”
She didn’t speak in the car, and kept her gaze out the window. Winter was here, leaves were falling from the trees everywhere and blowing down the street in the wind.
The corners of Sherry’s lips curled up, which made the place she had just bitten really hurt.
William didn’t speak, fearing that something would break if he spoke.
The car pulled up to the Cohen Group.
William reached out suddenly and hugged her hand.
Sherry felt something cold and clammy on her neck. She looked up with a smile and was startled, “You…. Why are you crying?”
William rubbed at her shoulder like a child, dampening and staining her sweater into a coin-sized stain with his tears.
Her bright eyes still filled with tears, “I’m sorry!”
She was still smiling, “Don’t say you’re sorry, you didn’t do anything wrong. I know that’s all in the past.”
But there was one kind of memory that remains unforgettable forever. He was reluctant to lose those photos because he cherished an unforgettable love, didn’t he? And this kind of love, he feared, was going to resurface at the first opportunity!
Of course, he kept these thoughts in his heart and didn’t say them out loud. Because he was struggling and conflicted, he didn’t know what to do, so he could only smile.
“Honey!” William held his breath, trying to hold back tears, “Will you promise me?”. She gave him a questioning look. “Promise me you won’t think too much about those things. They’re really just the past.” William looked at her with bated breath, “Promise me, okay?”.
Sherry gave him a look. Her dark eyes were clear, her gaze on him was like a lake in the spring sun, calm and quiet. After a long moment, she smiled at him, nodded and said, “Okay! I know the past is just the past, it doesn’t mean anything now, can I go now?”
“Yes. I’ll pick you up after work,” he said, struggling.
Sherry got out of the car and headed straight for the Cohen Group building.
William watched her disappear into the doorway of the building before starting the car and driving away.
Sherry didn’t have the strength to press the elevator button. She pulled out her phone, “Keegan, I need a leave of absence. I can’t come to work today.”
“Are you okay?” asked Keegan concerned.
“Yes. I’m fine! Keegan, do you know what the ward number is for…?”.
Keegan was shocked and gave him the address.
After hanging up the phone, Sherry walked out of the building.
William’s car was no longer there.
Good, he’s gone. She thought.
She walked toward the road.
Into the cab.
“Where to?” the driver asked.
Even after asking several times, Sherry didn’t answer because she didn’t seem to know where to go.
The driver gave her a glance through the rearview mirror. She was still silent.
Finally, he said, “Go to the hospital!”.
Tears welled in her eyes and her heart ached as if it had been cut with a knife.
The throbbing pain spread throughout her body.
It all came together, just like when she lost her father, Luke and Sammy at the same time.
Suddenly she felt exhausted. William’s car didn’t go far.
It pulled out of the Cohen Group’s yard and stopped on the road. He wanted to wait until she got off work to take her home and apologize to her.
However, he saw her go into the building, saw her come out again and get into a cab.
Where was she going? Didn’t she say she was going to work, he thought.
He realized he didn’t understand Sherry. He remembered her dazzling smile of a moment ago and the thought of her made his heart seize with inexplicable pain. His strength and reason drove him mad.
He followed his cab to the hospital. He saw her get out of the cab and nod to the driver.
Then he too got out of the car and followed her. When he saw her enter the inpatient department at the back of the hospital, he followed her.
She didn’t know he was following her.
Instead of taking the elevator, she went up the stairs, as if she didn’t have the strength. William followed her as Sherry reached a VIP room.
However, he did not enter and stood by the door. A gentle male voice was heard from inside the room: “Sierra, eat something. You haven’t eaten all day.”
Sherry recognized that voice, it was Payne’s voice. But she hadn’t expected him to be so gentle with Sierra.
Sierra didn’t say anything, Sherry didn’t hear his voice.
“Come on, Sierra. Get up and eat,” Payne continued.
“I don’t want to eat!” Sierra’s voice trailed off.
Sherry stood trembling, I was fine, she thought and breathed a sigh of relief, the direction Keegan gave her from Sierra was the right one besides.
She stood thinking at the door and turned.
William ducked out of sight as Sherry turned and left. He saw her coming down the stairs, who did she come to see and why didn’t she go in?
William was confused.
It turned out that Payne was very nice to Sierra. So this was her life, no wonder she was so enthralled, Sherry thought.
However, she still didn’t know why Mr. Sutton knew her. She thought of William again and looked down at her purse.
The album was in her purse. At first she had thought it was Lucille’s, she hadn’t expected William to keep those beautiful memories with him as well.
She had once fooled herself that he didn’t, but when the proof was put so clearly in front of her, she had to believe it. She felt suffocated and couldn’t breathe properly.
She kept telling herself over and over, “Don’t cry! It’s no big deal. You’ve lived through much worse.
William followed her silently, watching her as she moved forward. Then he saw her make a phone call and leave the hospital.
A car pulled up in front of the hospital door and Sherry got into it.
William was surprised. He got into his car, but he was too late to follow her.
Then he got a message from Sherry:
[Don’t come pick me up – Celia already picked me up.]
At the apartment on YX Street.
“What’s wrong? Your expressions are so strange.”
“Celia!” Sherry gave Celia a glance with somber eyes.
Celia couldn’t see any light in her eyes. She didn’t look sad but rather looked empty and frightening. She looked at Celia but her eyes showed no emotion. Suddenly, she laughed, the kind of empty laugh that makes people uncomfortable.
“Sherry, what’s wrong with you?” asked Celia, thinking she wasn’t normal.
Sherry shook her head, “I just want to cry. I really want to cry but I can’t.”
Celia sighed, her voice full of concern, “Sherry, don’t think too much. Tell me what happened, I’m here for you. I won’t let you suffer anymore, did William provoke you again?”
“Celia, what should I do?” he asked as if he didn’t know what to do.
Celia’s eyes held a hint of helplessness and a lot of pity, “What are you thinking in your head, you idiot, what’s so hard? If you don’t like him taking care of Lucille, tell him and throw him out. Whether he’s Sammy’s father or not, you can’t throw your own life away for the sake of your child!”
Sherry shook her head vigorously, “If it were really that simple, everything would be easy! There would be no such thing as being caught up in emotions, no helplessness. What I feel right now is helplessness, I have no way out. It’s just painful suffering whether I let it go or not.”
Celia paused for a moment, “You’re poisoned! You’re poisoned by William! Do you want to cry? Do you want to borrow my shoulder to cry on?”
Sherry lifted her head and smiled bitterly but sincerely, “Celia, thank you. You are always there for me when I feel most helpless. Thank you so much, I feel so much better.”
“Cut the formalities.” Celia sighed, “The truth is I don’t know much about love, but seeing you tortured like this, I wouldn’t fall in love even if I died!”
William’s car was parked in the alley outside Sherry’s apartment. He had followed her here.
He stayed in his car after seeing Celia and Sherry get out of another car.
He lit a cigarette and smoked it with furrowed brows.
Early the next morning.
Sherry woke up and made herself some porridge. She felt much better after a good night’s sleep. The night before, Celia had left quite late and Sammy had been picked up by John.
However, maybe John was creating opportunities for her and William?
She had thought about it all night, thinking he was going to come over or at least call her.
But no. Not even a message. If she was honest, she felt a little disappointed and aggrieved. Thinking about those pictures, those intimate scenes, she was filled with helplessness.
After a while, her heart calmed down a lot. She had learned one thing over the years, and that was to let nature take its course….
Eating her porridge quietly, she touched her lower belly, “Baby, tell me, should mommy forgive daddy?”
In the alley was a tall figure standing next to the blue Bugatti. The man looked wet with frost, his lips were pale.
The sun shone in his eyes but there was no warmth. He seemed to have stayed there all night. He was standing next to the car. He looked like an emotionless sculpture, with the sun spreading its lonely shadow.
