Chapter 156:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Evil would not allow the baby to stay with Susan overnight.
Susan touched her belly and turned resentful, “Cohen, I’ll hate you forever!”.
Cohen unclenched his fists and said, “Okay.”
Keegan heard someone open the door and ran downstairs to call Sherry soon. This time, he faced his father for the first time.
Sherry was surprised as she answered the knock, “Keegan, excuse me?”
“Sherry, Mr. Sutton asked Miss Gill to miscarry.”
“Oh!” Sherry cried, “How can he do that? Where are you? At the hospital? I’m on my way there now! Please tell him not to do it! I’ll call him now too.”
“Sherry, they’re having a talk. Miss Gill turned him down. You don’t know Mr. Cohen well. It’s hard to change his mind. If he found out I called you, he’d get…”
Sherry hung up the call nervously, “I’m going to stop them! Please help me too.”
She looked back at William and said, “Cohen asked Susan to terminate the pregnancy. We have to stop them. Go quickly.”
“Um!” William was concerned about how Sherry was doing at that point; she had one more day left. He said, “Sherry, don’t worry, I’ll go. You’d better stay here until the day after tomorrow.”
“No, William. I’m fine now.” Sherry didn’t get much rest after she delivered the baby. She said, “Hurry! We don’t have much time. If I didn’t go, I’d ask Susan to abort for sure. William, the baby is my little sister or brother; it’s my partner in the family!”.
William nodded and watched Sherry with concern. He remembered that on that night she lost Luke and lamented.
“Okay, I’ll get your coat.” William took her coat to help her put it on and let her get into the car. “Put your hat on. Stay warm.”
Just then, Samuel and Daniel came over to ask, “Mommy, where are you going?”
Sherry was getting into William’s car and said, “Darlings, please stay with Gracie. Mommy has to do something now. I’ll talk to you later.”
Daniel got a response and said, “Mommy is going on a date with your daddy?”
Samuel started yelling; he looked back at Daniel and said, “Hey Dan, don’t reject my daddy. He’s my daddy and so is yours. If you get married, I’ll be so glad I don’t call anyone else daddy.”
He asked, “Would you like to get married?”
“Sure!” Daniel nodded, “Sammy, would you please not let Dad down?”
“Yes. He’s made my mom suffer too much. I won’t be nice to him until he’s satisfied.”
“But I think Dad loves Mom, he knew he was wrong.”
“…”
William drove his car at high speed toward G-Town; Sherry still urged him, “William, please be faster.”
William saw a police car chasing them and said, “Sherry, I’m trying.”
He thought he would have to pay a large speeding ticket later. They didn’t care. They had to go save a baby’s life.
William didn’t know what to say, he couldn’t imagine Susan giving birth to such a tiny baby for Sherry’s father anyway.
Oh, the world really sucked! At the hospital, the doctor gave Susan an ultrasound and said, “Sir and ma’am, the baby is very healthy and has a strong heartbeat. It is three months old. Therefore, the lady cannot have a curettage and labor must be induced. Are you sure you want to terminate? I’m sorry if you decide to do so. But you both have to keep it…”
Cohen was impatient to hear, “Stop it, please!”
The doctor was surprised by his reaction. “Fine. Please go to the women’s clinic to pay.” The doctor knew they were determined to do it, without saying anything, but he thought it was strange that they came to rush him at midnight. Cohen kept silent and passed the vouchers to Keegan.
“Father…” Keegan tried to say something.
“Shut up!” Cohen stopped him.
Keegan had to go pay and he also hoped Sherry would be there soon. Susan was too embarrassed and went blank. Cohen led her by the hand to the operating room of the women’s clinic. The nurse led Susan, but Susan was backing away to protect her baby.
“No, I won’t.” She shook her head vigorously and shook Cohen off to run away. “No, no!”
The baby grew in her body in the last hundred days. Susan was very happy with him. So she couldn’t kill him. The baby was all she had hoped for in her remaining life. Susan lost her love or she would love no one else. She had nothing left; why did Cohen keep taking the baby away from her?
“Susan, stop!” Cohen ordered her from behind her back.
“Cohen, you can take my life, but you can’t take my baby! I want to have it,” she screamed and screamed.
Cohen chased after her to grab her wrist and carried her away. Susan started kicking him; in the quiet hospital hallway, she made a lot of noise.
Cohen didn’t let her go, just locked her in his arms with his shoulders. Even though he was being kicked, he was numb enough to ignore it.
“Cohen, I hate you, go to hell!”
Cohen shouted angrily at the nurse, “Please take her to the room. Quickly.”
The nurse startled him and had to come and take Susan away; he hadn’t heard what had happened. Suddenly, Susan bit Cohen’s hand until it bled. But Cohen didn’t move at all, just watched her sympathetically. If he was doing it to make her feel better, he’d rather she bit him again. Still, Cohen held her in his arms so the nurse could tend to Susan.
Keegan returned and saw Susan’s blood on her lips, as well as Cohen’s bleeding hand on which there was some tooth mark. He couldn’t help but say, “Father, please think twice. Sherry is on her way. She wouldn’t like it.”
“Why did you tell her?” Cohen roared in anger.
“Father, please! This is your baby, how can you kill it?”
“Keegan, please help us. Please…” Susan begged for Cohen’s kindness. She was so helpless it made everyone in the room have no heart to see her.
“No! I just need Sherry.”
Cohen closed his eyes sadly. He had to do it for both Sherry and Susan’s future. He said, “Nurse, please take her to surgery.”
Susan cried like a wounded little animal and was wheeled into the operating room. The whole hallway was filled with her miserable cries.
“Cohen, you’re evil!” she screamed in despair as if her life was going to end soon. She hated Cohen, and kept saying, “I hate you!”
Cohen muttered, “It’s okay.”
The operating room door was closed and there was silence everywhere. Sherry arrived just then. She held William’s hands, “No! William, please save her!”
At the sound of the voice, Cohen and Keegan turned to see Sherry and William. Sherry ran up to them breathlessly and grabbed Cohen’s hand, “If you asked Susan to finish the baby, I’ll never call you daddy in my life!”
“Sherry!” Cohen was astonished to hear her, “Why are you here?”
William and Keegan kicked open the door to see a stunned Susan lying on the bed. Susan got up as soon as she heard the door was open. “William, help!” she called to William in a low voice, like a drowning person doing her best to get a rope.
William felt relaxed that he had arrived in time, “Susan, don’t worry. we’re here. sherry and I will definitely save you and your baby! you have my brother-in-law! Don’t worry.”
Keegan gave a glance at William, who was joking at the time. But he also felt relaxed about saving the baby.
Sherry also ran into the room to see Susan; she still didn’t know what she would call Susan. She just went to hug her and said softly, “I’m sorry I’m late. Let’s go home. I need the baby-brother or sister. He’s a member of my family.”
Susan raised her head to take a look at the crying Sherry. She understood that Sherry really cared for her. Susan almost gave up on the baby at that moment; she couldn’t think of him again and cried out, “Sherry…”
Cohen stood by the door and watched Sherry hug Susan and cry. He was left hesitating.
Sherry told him that if he forced Susan to terminate the pregnancy, she would never call him daddy. How kind the daughter was! She loved everyone in her family. However, was it wise to keep the baby? Cohen stepped back and picked up a cigarette.
“Father.” Keegan could see how disappointed he was, “I know the lady loves you. I don’t mind having a young stepmother like her. Sherry doesn’t mind having a brother or sister younger than her own son either. Why are you so insistent?”
…
William took Sherry’s hands all the way to the Waiting Restaurant.
Leon was surprised to see them holding hands and began to feel envious. He always envied any perfect couple, he finally had a girlfriend and would be engaged soon.
Leon asked, “It’s not dinner time, do you guys want to get something to eat or coffee?”.
William looked at Leon; he seemed happier today than when they met many days ago.
He said, “No, thank you. We’re here for one question only – are you going to get engaged?”
Leon felt embarrassed by his question, but tried to answer him easily, “Sure, did you get my invitation card? Don’t forget to come.”
Sherry took William’s hand tightly; William also did the same with it in response, “Leon, congratulations.”
Sherry called out softly, “William.” She didn’t know when she was going to talk about Susan with Leon.
Leon was hesitant, “Sherry, what happened?”
William held Sherry’s waist to keep her from talking. He started first, “Leon, could we talk in your office? Sherry, please wait for me outside.”
Sometimes it was easier for men to have a chat in the absence of women.
“Good!” Sherry nodded.
Leon also agreed as he saw how serious William was.
