Chapter 189:.

“Ugh…” A familiar aura enveloped her and made her feel very at ease. He lifted the blanket and lay down right on top of her.
She started to panic in a second, “No! William!”
He began to kiss her lips, “You deserve one…; you’re mine and mine alone. Are you disappointed that you didn’t sleep with someone else?”
“Was it really you?” she began to believe it was him.
Maybe it didn’t happen, but she remembered calling his name, and she wanted to hear his voice next to her ear.
“Sherry, it was me, William…!” There was his voice again; that familiar sound rang directly in her heart. “I was always the one who called you; have you forgotten?”

“William, it was really you! I was scared to death.” She suddenly relaxed and her heavy heart felt lighter.
She began to moan, then buried her head in his chest and wept.
“It was me! It was always me! Silly girl, don’t worry about other things. Even if someone did something to you, so what, you’re still my wife, for life! Don’t worry, I won’t let them hurt you anymore!” He comforted her in a soft voice, with a hint of sadness and pain.
“I thought… I thought it had been someone else…” She clung to his neck for warmth and comfort. “I was so scared!”
She began to cry her eyes out. “It’s okay, silly girl, don’t cry, you’re clean and pure! Haha… I’ve never seen a woman so distrustful of her man! Come on, stop crying…” William’s laughter was so close, right next to her ear.
Sherry was stunned; she wiped away her tears and felt slightly embarrassed. “William, I was afraid to soil myself! I was afraid…”
He reached out his slender fingers and pressed against her red lips. “Whatever happens, you’re my wife! I love you, do you understand?”
She was touched by his words and nodded, “Thank you!” But even if he said he loved her no matter what, if something happened to her, how could she have the strength to face him? She couldn’t.
“Silly girl, can you believe me now?” William sat down beside her and clung to her. He wanted to nap so badly, but there was no time, he still had too much to do.
“Mhmm!” Sherry nodded and took a deep breath, finally feeling much more relaxed.
“I have to go out!” She said, “I have a lot of things to take care of. Keegan will send you home, OK?”
“Mhm!” Suddenly, Sherry asked, “Um, you’re sure those people didn’t touch me, right?”
“Of course they didn’t touch you!” He replied without hesitation.
“Then who-who were they? Why would they do that to me? What did I do to them?” She couldn’t figure out where they came from.
She was troubled, and the ordeal left an ominous mark on her heart.
“It was Darcy’s doing; she stood her ground, but now she’s at the police station! You shouldn’t go out now; stay home. It’s not that I won’t let you go out, but behave yourself, understand?”
“Darcy, she…” Sherry couldn’t believe it – how could that woman be so ruthless? Just the thought of a woman in a mask while those men were trying to rape her in the woods made Sherry shudder all over. “Why did she do this to me?”
“She’s gotten a little paranoid about this Lucille thing! Maybe she’s like Lucille and her mother with a hereditary mental illness. I’m afraid she’ll keep bothering us.” William fixed his gaze on Sherry’s small face, “Are you going to blame me for this?”
“What’s to blame?” she asked in confusion.
“For just sending Darcy to the station.” He said as he continued to give her a deep look.
She said nothing. Thinking about those men who almost raped her and how paranoid Darcy was, Sherry just said quietly, “If she really is sick, the law won’t do anything to her; maybe she’ll try a second time. I don’t care what happens to her, but I’m afraid to go through it again.”
William felt a pain in his heart as he saw the fear in her eyes. He froze and frowned. If something like that were to happen again….
He shook his head, “It won’t happen again, Sherry; I’ll make sure of it, trust me!”.
Although her vision was still a little blurry, Sherry nodded. How would he handle it, kill Darcy? She shook her head.
If Darcy could send five men after her today, what would happen next time? What new plan would he have next time? Maybe Darcy would even target Sherry’s children. If she stayed paranoid like this forever? Sherry didn’t dare think anymore; she suddenly felt terror in her heart.
“Phone call! Phone call!” Sherry said hurriedly, “I need to make a phone call!”
“Who are you planning to call?” asked William in puzzlement, but he still handed her his phone.
He was concerned about how anxious she was at that moment.
“I’m going to call my father.” said Sherry nervously. At this point, she thought of her father and her children, and called Cohen directly. “I need to get my dad to protect the kids. I need to be home with them; I don’t want anything else to happen. William, I’m scared.” She gripped the phone tightly.
Watching her exert such force, William felt a pain in his heart. “Dad? It’s me!” he said and Sherry trembled.
“Sherry, I’m on the road right now; I just took care of the matter at the police station. Don’t worry, I’ve taken care of them, I’ll make sure they are castrated for good. If the law can’t help you, I’ll take matters into my own hands. No one touches my daughter!” shouted Cohen as soon as he called. “My dear child, are you all right?”
A surge of warmth ran through Sherry’s heart, but that wasn’t what was pressing on her. “Daddy, I’m fine, really!” There was still a slight ache in her forehead, but she didn’t mind at all. “Dad, can I ask you a favor?”
Cohen felt disheartened when he heard her use the word ‘favor’. Even William felt mixed feelings when he heard her speak with a tremor in her voice.
“Sherry, don’t talk to your father like that; just ask, Dad will take care of whatever you need!” assured Cohen over the phone.
“Thanks, Dad, can you pick up Sammy and Daniel? I’m afraid they’ll become targets too. I’m really scared. Can you?” she sounded incredibly sorry.
William was startled by her words and looked at her reflexively. He felt disheartened; did she not believe in him? It was as if she didn’t believe he could handle these matters well, so he had to ask his father, and he didn’t even ask himself.Did he disappoint her too much? He blamed himself as he felt a stinging sensation in his nose.
“Okay, I’ll send someone to pick them up at Rowland Manor; don’t worry, Dad will take care of it. Let’s give them some time off from school, until I find out who’s behind all this!”
“Thanks, Dad!” Sherry felt safe, and her eyes turned red. “I feel so much better now!”
“I’ll come take you home right now.”
“Okay!” Sherry nodded.
After hanging up, she watched the complex expression on William’s face. Only then did she seem to realize something. By doing so, didn’t it mean that she didn’t trust William?
She may or may not have believed him, but she was genuinely concerned about the issues with the Mcleans sisters. If it had happened once, it could happen again. William continued to give her a puzzled look. He blamed himself deeply, looked at her, and said, “I’m sorry!” He hugged her tightly with his strong arms. The familiar scent of tobacco enveloped her and left her longing for that comforting embrace. She said softly, “William, it’s not that I don’t trust you, I’m just afraid! I’m afraid Darcy will come back and do something to us again; I’m afraid!”
“I know!” her voice cracked and echoed in her heart. Her eyes began to water as she shook her head.
“If something were to happen again, I could be dead, sure, but I have to make sure my children are safe! I’m sorry, forgive my selfishness, but I can’t take those risks.” William leaned down to kiss her face.
He rested his head on her shoulders, smelled her perfume and, self-blaming, gathered his strength to say, “I’ll take good care of you!” Sherry breathed in and reached out to caress his back. She also leaned her body weight against him and felt herself relax.
“We can’t afford to take any more risks. He was wearing a mask when he ordered those five men to attack me. Every time I remember his words, I feel so terrified.” Because of this incident, she would rather jump into the ocean than let anyone sully her.
That would be too mortifying for a woman. Good thing it was William, otherwise she didn’t know how she would go on living.
“I’m so sorry!” Was all she could say. Perhaps he really was too lenient with Darcy, to the point that his own wife was hurt. These words carried a heavy tone. Sherry, of course, knew the pain he felt in his heart. “I know you still feel sorry for Lucille; I won’t ask anything of you, but I must protect myself and my children. You understand, don’t you, William?”
“I understand!” He held her small face and kissed her gently, then rubbed her lips. Her pale white lips began to slowly revitalize and redden. “It’s my fault you feel insecure!”
A knock sounded at the door, followed by Keegan’s voice. “William, I brought Sherry’s clothes; let her change first!” William went out to get the clothes; it was already dark outside.
He and Keegan stood in the hallway while Sherry changed clothes. “You seem to know who did this to Sherry!” asked Keegan as he looked at William with a calm but puzzled look.
William nodded. “I’ll take care of it!”
“Just like the last time you took care of the people responsible for the abortion thing?” said Keegan as he raised his eyebrows. “You can incapacitate the men, but what about the women, how are you going to handle them?” William froze; he hadn’t expected Keegan’s words to be so sharp, but he knew Keegan only had Sherry’s safety in mind. “Liam said the mastermind was a woman. Can you do it?” Keegan had been with Cohen for many years; he managed to sharpen his instincts and was ready to spot any irregularities. If a woman wanted to hurt Sherry, surely it was a love rival. That was what went through Keegan’s mind. “If you can’t do it, I’ll go take care of her!”
“No!” William shook his head, “I won’t let anyone get away with hurting Sherry.”
“I don’t think sending them to the police was the best option. The law can only do so much to restrain someone. Who can guarantee that they won’t get revenge when they get out? Some people’s only goal is revenge for their whole lives, especially psychopaths. I won’t let anyone hurt Sherry,” Keegan said with a firm look on his face. “If you can’t protect her, stop with the empty promises!”
