Chapter 1528:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Brandon heard Janet’s mumbling and, not understanding what she was saying, he reached out and gently touched her face as he asked:
‘What were you saying?’
Janet came to and frowned, confused.
‘Elizabeth…I just heard that name. Who is she?’
Both Brandon and Frank exchanged a glance, a glimmer of hope shining in their eyes. Holding his hand tightly, Brandon’s voice was anxious and expectant:
‘Do you remember anything?’
Janet bit her lower lip in anguish, thought for a moment before shaking her head dejectedly.
‘My mind is still blank. I have no memory of the past. I just felt an inexplicable familiarity when I heard the name ‘Elizabeth’.’
The light in Brandon’s eyes dimmed, and the disappointment was evident in his voice.
‘You don’t remember anything?’
He had hoped that Janet’s sudden mention of the name might indicate a breakthrough in his amnesia. But his hopes were quickly dashed. Since Janet’s return, her memory and physical abnormalities had been a constant source of worry. The uncertainty of when or if he would recover weighed heavily on Brandon.
His sadness was palpable, and Janet could feel it. Guilt welling up inside her, she reached out to take Brandon’s wide, warm hand, whispering:
‘I’m sorry…I’ll try to remember the past.’
Seeing Brandon’s desperation, Frank reached over and patted her shoulder, saying reassuringly:
‘Don’t worry. When we get back to Barnes, we’ll consult with more doctors and try new treatments. I’m sure we can help Janet get her memory back.’
He then turned to Janet and explained patiently:
‘Elizabeth is a former colleague of yours and a good friend.’
Despite Frank’s explanation, Janet still couldn’t remember Elizabeth. Her head dropped in disappointment as she said:
‘I still don’t remember.’
‘It’s okay if you can’t remember now,’ Frank replied, his demeanour becoming more patient and gentle, a departure from his usual casual personality.
‘When we get back to Barnes, I’ll take Elizabeth to see you. You’ll get to meet more of the people you knew before, and maybe you’ll remember something.’
At Frank’s words, Janet’s disappointment faded a little. She nodded, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Suddenly, a spark of recognition shone in Janet’s eyes. She blinked playfully and smiled, asking:
‘Elizabeth is your girlfriend?’
Taken by surprise by the question, Frank scratched the back of his neck and nodded sheepishly.
‘Yes… Yes, she is.’
With a knowing smile, Janet continued:
‘You said I used to be a designer – is she also an accomplished designer?’
‘Of course!’ Frank’s face lit up at the mention of his girlfriend’s career. He pulled out his mobile phone and quickly navigated to the W Marks Studio website. After finding Elizabeth’s profile, he handed the phone to Janet with excitement in his voice.
‘Look, these were all designed by her. It’s amazing, isn’t it?’
Taking the phone, Janet looked at the works, each with Elizabeth’s signature, and said appreciatively:
‘She really is a brilliant designer. Her designs are stunning.’
Frank nodded proudly, unable to resist bragging.
‘Of course she is. Otherwise, how could she be my girlfriend?’
Brandon shot a disdainful glance at the smug Frank and said casually:
‘Immodest.’
Frank shot Brandon an angry glare back and snorted.
The more Janet examined the design work, the more engrossed she became. As she flipped through the photos on the W Marks Studio website, her eyes suddenly widened and her expression became intense and focused.
Seeing her absorbed gaze, Brandon smiled warmly and stroked her hair gently. He didn’t expect that, even without his memory, Janet’s love and passion for design would not have diminished.
Frank had initially intended to retrieve his phone after showing her Elizabeth’s work, but he hadn’t expected her to be so engrossed in browsing the site. A little impatiently, he asked:
‘Whose work are you looking at? What are you so interested in?’
Janet, lost in the designs, didn’t answer. Curiosity piqued, Brandon leaned over to see what had caught her attention.
As soon as he saw what she was looking at, his face darkened.
