Chapter 2114:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Lexi had anticipated that the mysterious man had no other options to manipulate except for her, so she was confident he wouldn’t try to stop her as she made her exit. True to her expectations, just as Lexi turned and took a few steps, the man grabbed her arm and said, “Wait a minute.”
Lexi halted, folding her arms and raising an eyebrow, challenging him. “Have you made your decision?”
“Thirty million,” the man proposed, attempting to lower the price from fifty million, which he deemed excessive.
“Fifty million. I won’t settle for less,” Lexi declared firmly, signaling that she wouldn’t budge on her demand.
Taken aback by her resoluteness, the man fell silent for a few moments before reluctantly agreeing. “I’ll pay you when the plan succeeds.”
Still unsatisfied, Lexi shook her head. “No, you need to transfer the money right now. If I don’t see the money, I won’t cooperate.”
“How can you be so demanding?” the man exclaimed, glaring at Lexi in frustration.
Lexi, unbothered by his irritation, wondered if he truly saw her as nothing more than a pawn in his scheme. Realizing his anger was building, she stood her ground fearlessly. “Either you pay me fifty million now, and I’ll help you, or I walk away this instant.”
The man clenched his fists, his eyes cold with resentment. If Lexi were no longer useful, he would have considered eliminating her.
“Give me a moment to think,” he muttered through gritted teeth.
“Fine. You have five minutes,” Lexi responded casually, leaning against the wall and waiting with a relaxed demeanor for his verdict.

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, the man considered the pros and cons of the deal. Although he felt Lexi’s price was steep, she was indeed the most suitable person for the job.
He weighed the idea of spending fifty million to manipulate Lexi into targeting Janet. If Janet and the baby were harmed, Brandon would be devastated and vulnerable, making it easier for him to pursue his plans.
After a moment of contemplation, he decided that investing fifty million to potentially alter three lives was a risk worth taking.
Minutes ticked by.
Suddenly, Lexi’s mobile phone vibrated in her pocket, jolting her. “It’s been transferred,” the man announced, his voice tinged with irritation.
Lexi exhaled, a wave of relief washing over her.
Indeed, the man had transferred the funds. At first, she thought the notification was from Brandon. Lexi eagerly pulled out her phone to verify the transaction.
“Wow! So much money!”
Despite expecting the deposit, Lexi couldn’t suppress a gasp when she saw the staggering amount in her bank account. Noticing the way Lexi’s eyes sparkled as she scrutinized the figures on her screen, the man watched her with palpable contempt.
“Go there as soon as you receive the money,” he urged, his voice stern with a warning. “If we don’t succeed in harming Janet’s baby today, we will reclaim the money.”
Inside, Lexi scoffed, confident they would never see that money again. But outwardly, she flashed a placating smile and assured him, “Okay, I’ll head to Janet’s place right away.”
With those words, Lexi turned on her heel and rushed from the backstage area in search of Janet.
Outside the venue, Janet was bidding farewell to her friends one by one.
“Janet,” Lexi called out as she approached.
Upon hearing Lexi’s voice, Janet turned, her face marked with concern. “Lexi, where were you just now?”
Hesitating, Lexi bit her lower lip and murmured, “The competition results weren’t great, so I needed a moment alone to gather myself.”
Janet nodded, understanding her predicament. She offered comforting words. “Don’t worry about it. Everyone has off days. You’ve been improving rapidly. Just keep focusing on your work, and you’ll see positive outcomes soon.”
“Exactly. Your work is already more impressive than mine was when I started. Keep at it, and you’ll excel,” Elizabeth added, trying to bolster Lexi’s spirits.
Looking up into their supportive gazes, Lexi felt a surge of determination. She nodded, her voice steady but heartfelt. “Okay, I’ll take some time to reflect and devote myself to my studies. I’ve been a bit too eager lately.”
